Support to TOpology (STO)
Supported by the European Space Agency, Support to TOpology (STO) aimed at studying and demonstrating the use of topological information in the definition of complex objects based on simple (single) objects; moreover.
SISTEMA lead a Team formed by the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering – Prof. Eliseo Clementini, Università Degli Studi Dell’Aquila (Italy), GISAT (Czech Republic) and the Umweltbundesamt (Environmental Protection Agency, Austria).
The STO project has run from April 2011 to Nov. 2013: as outcome of the project, besides different new theoretical developments, a prototype system able to allow a user to define specific topological rules to identify complex objects starting from basic images or pre-classified land use maps has been developed. This system, named Topology Software System (TSS) has been developed as web application, and has been tested on many different land classification maps; main emphasis was put on the so called LISA land cover maps (LISA stands for Land cover Information System Austria); LISA images have been used to identify residential areas, commercial / industrial areas, airports, road networks and river networks, and to generalise the approach of aggregating objects to move from one Level of Detal (LoD) to another.
A demo video of the TSS system can be found here:
